For Coaches and Former Debaters

The following positions are open for students who have finished their HS debate careers. Previous involvement with Beyond Resolved is neither expected nor required.

Advisory Board

We will be selecting 4-5 additional applicants on a rolling basis throughout the year to serve on the advisory board. 

Qualifications:

  • Participated in debate as a competitor or coach
  • Passion for social justice in the community!
  • At least two “years out” of High School Speech and Debate

Expectations:

  • Attend an hour long call with the cabinet every other week
  • Review anonymous concerns about BR and address them with the cabinet
  • Select recipients for BR’s tournament scholarships
  • Receive BR’s public notifications

Alum Council

We will match Alum Council members with a project, chapter, or initiative of their choice to help advise and develop.

Qualifications:

  • Participated in debate as a competitor or coach
  • Passion for social justice in the community!

Expectations:

  • Time commitment won’t be more than an hour/week, unless you choose to be more involved with your project.
  • You will be assigned a specific project to advise. You aren’t in-charge of it, but you would provide guidance for students who reach out to you.

For Current HS Students

National Positions:

Apply for all national positions and new chapters below

Graphic Designer

Responsibilities:

  • Design Instagram and Facebook graphics
  • Design logos for projects and state chapters
  • Design flyers for specific programs

Qualifications:

  • Strong design skills
  • Experience working with Canva
  • Willingness to collaborate with others about creative vision
  • Highly organized and responsive

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours/week

Currently accepting 1-2 graphic designers.


Director of Educational Resources (Currently accepting applicants for World Schools, Big Questions, Interpretation and Platform Events)

Responsibilities:

  • Organize new educational resources for your event on a monthly basis (e.g. lectures, interviews, prep, drills, guides)
  • Delegate to educational resource contributors
  • Contribute to educational resource projects
  • Help students at all levels in your event

Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching/tutoring (doesn’t need to be debate)
  • Highly organized and responsive
  • For US events, TOC/NSDA qualifiers are especially encouraged to apply, but we look at applicants from all backgrounds and circuits as access to resources varies widely and should not be a factor holding someone back.

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/week

Currently accepting applicants for World Schools, Big Questions, Interpretation and Platform Events

Educational Resource Contributor (All events other than Public Forum)

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to educational resource projects at the discretion of the event’s Educational Resource Director
  • Help students at all levels in your event

Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching/tutoring (doesn’t need to be debate)
  • Highly organized and responsive
  • For US events, TOC/NSDA qualifiers are especially encouraged to apply, but we look at applicants from all backgrounds and circuits as access to resources varies widely and should not be a factor holding someone back.

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/week

Currently accepting applicants for all speech/debate events, except Public Forum.

Hall of Fame Coordinators

Responsibilities:

  • Compile information from nominations, submissions, and tournament results
  • Format posts to highlight success within the larger community

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Canva
  • Very organized and responsive
  • Strong understanding of systemic barriers in speech and debate

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours/week

Currently accepting 1-2 coordinators.

Initiative Member

Responsibilities:

  • Attend discussions weekly or on alternate weeks
  • Assist with projects (varies by initiative but will likely involve: research, direct outreach, writing, and organizing)

Qualifications:

  • Highly organized and responsive
  • Certain discussions initiatives are only open to people who are part of that identity

Time Commitment: 1+ hours / week

Currently accepting applications across four initiatives: Disability and Mental Health, LGBTQIA+, Race and Ethnicity, Wealth and Class. Applicants are welcome to apply for multiple initiatives, or join initiatives in addition to holding other positions.

State Positions:

New Chapter Head

(Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and all circuits outside the 50 states)

Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment for future chapter leadership
  • Compile contacts of coaches and tournament officials in your area
  • Help enact change at the local level through close communications.
  • Organize events (in person or digital) for debaters in your chapter

Qualifications:

  • 1+ (preferably 2+) years debating on the circuit you want to represent
  • Highly organized and responsive
  • Previous leadership experience is recommended, but not required

Time Commitment: 3-5 Hours / week
